The Federal Emergency Management Agency is dedicating the month of September to making sure that everyone is prepared in the case of a natural disaster.
FEMA officially launched "The Ready Campaign" as part of its annual National Preparedness Month. The initiative focuses on four main points to remember: be informed, make a plan, build a kit and get involved.
Officials say that September is in the heart of disaster season, making it even more important that you and your family know what to do in an emergency.
New York City was especially hard hit by Superstorm Sandy in Oct. 2012 and Hurricane Irene the previous year.
