After the April nor?easter caused $31 million worth of damage to private property in Connecticut, the federal government announced it will help cover those losses.
Southwestern Connecticut residents can begin the process of filing their claims with FEMA, but the agency said payments will be decided on a case-by-case basis.
That announcement was good news for some who say they need all the help they can get. Some families have spent thousands of dollars on repairs.
Isabel Quito, of Norwalk, is one homeowner who is relieved help is on the way. Her couch, toys, clothes and brand new washer and dryer were ruined by the nor?easter. Construction crews are helping her rebuild and replace saturated walls. Due to the repairs, she said the bills are piling up.
FEMA said everyone who registers will get their property inspected. The agency did not promise to cover all of the costs.
