Fire officials say 50 people have been displaced after a fire tore through a Woodbridge apartment complex early Friday morning.

Flames could be seen punching through the roof of Building 23 at Woodbridge Towers as multiple crews worked to douse the fire early Friday morning.

The fire broke out just before 6 a.m. in a complex on Plaza Drive. The apartments are located just off Woodbridge center drive, near a mall as well as a plaza of stores that include a Panera, a Wegmans supermarket and a Lowe's Home Improvement store.

A resident told News 12 that she called 911 after seeing flames erupting from multiple floors of the building.

Flames and heavy, black smoke could be seen from several blocks away. Firefighters from Woodbridge as well as nearby towns responded to the location.

There is no word yet on whether anyone was injured or how many people have been displaced.

This is a developing story. More information will be released as it becomes available.
