More than a dozen Bridgeport firefighters worked to rescue a driver who became trapped inside his vehicle following an accident on Park Avenue at around 12 p.m.
Firefighters say they had a difficult time getting the man out of the car because the crash had sent the vehicle through a wrought-iron fence, making it hard for emergency workers to reach him.
"This was a tough extrication," says Assistant Fire Chief Robert Morton. "We actually had to take out the front door and the back door in order to remove the individual out."
According to the firefighters, the driver they rescued was conscious the whole time and is expected to be OK.
The driver of the SUV involved in the crash says the other car sped through a red light and hit him.The cause of the accident is under investigation.
