Whether it's by ferry, boat or even kayaking, people can get across Long Island Sound in a multitude of ways.
But a man from Norwalk is attempting the 15-mile trek using a different mode of transportation.
“I asked AI, I’ve done the Google search, the Reddit searches," Philip Chiaia says. "This is the first-ever attempt of a Hydrobike crossing of Long Island Sound."
Chiaia is making the journey on behalf of Ride the Tide, an advocacy group for clean water, coastal preservation and pollution reduction in the Long Island Sound.
"The health of the sound really emulates the health of our community," Chiaia says. "If the water's healthy, and we have a good biosphere here where the animals and the plants and everything are healthy, then it really is a representation of us and what we’re doing."
The Norwalk native is also hoping to
raise $5,000 for children's cancer research.
