Connecticut's first West Nile virus human case of the season was reported in New Haven County.
It is the only human case so far.
Mosquitoes carrying the virus have been found across the state, with the majority along Fairfield County’s coastal line, including Stamford.
“I think the recent surge may certainly be due to the heavy rain of over seven inches.” said Jim Federici, laboratory director of Stamford’s Department of Health and Human Services.
“It’s been very hot and humid this summer, and that’s very favorable for mosquitos that carry West Nile Virus.” said Philip Armstrong, ScD.
West Nile virus symptoms consist of fever, headache, nausea, muscle aches or a rash.
