Some fishermen in southwestern Connecticut claim they were never notified about the new saltwater fishing license requirement, which went into effect in July.
According to the local fishing enthusiasts, they received no communication about the new license, they don't know how much it costs, and they have no idea what the money is going toward.
A spokesman for the state Department of Environmental Protection says proceeds from the sale of licenses will go toward an environmental conservation fund.
This week, people caught fishing without a license will get a verbal warning the first time, but repeat offenders will receive a ticket.
