Local eateries are passing the bill to diners as the cost of wheat goes up.
A wheat shortage has been rocking bakeries, pizzerias and bagel stores everywhere. The lack of wheat has increased flour prices, and some local store owners say their bills are doubling.
?If the bill was $3000 a week, it?s now $6000,? says Village Bagels owner Darren Monaco.
Monaco says he?s lucky to have a loyal customer base, but he?s also pushing other items at his store to make up the difference. He?s now offering specials on salads twice a week in an effort to bring in more revenue.
The store owner says he?s not raising prices, but the cost of bagels has passed the dollar mark in other cities.
