Hurricane Sandy and yesterday's nor'easter couldn't have come at a worse time for many area food banks that normally use these weeks before the holidays to stock up on supplies.

The staff at the Stamford Food Bank says their supplies have been depleted by shelters and other organizations in the wake of the storms.

Two weeks before Thanksgiving, the food bank would normally have about 15,000 turkeys for families. This year, they do not have any.

Food bank director Kate Lombardo says the best way people can help is by donating money online or by dropping off turkeys or other food supplies.
