A new food pantry at Norwalk High School is serving 40 families a week, and it is all thanks to one student's service project.

"It's pretty fulfilling to know that you're providing for people that could actually need stuff more than you," said Jeremiah Simeon.

Simeon first conceived of the food pantry as part of SAVE, Inc.'s youth summer program.

"He did research, he talked to his peers, and it brought us to where we are right now with the food pantry," said Nicol Ayers, director of programming at SAVE, Inc.

The outreach organization helps Norwalk students reach their potential through community service.

Simeon says students aren't at their best when they come to school hungry.

The pantry is funded through community donations and a grant from Stop & Shop.

Jeremiah says he sees more community service and community organizing in his future.

SAVE, Inc mentors say other projects tackled issues such as gender identity and police violence.

The food pantry at Norwalk High School is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
