Former Bridgeport State Sen. Ernie Newton is asking city council members to "ban the box."
That's the box on a job application that asks for someone's criminal history.
Newton works for East End Development and says the company recently won a bid to do work in Bridgeport, but the city backed out of a contract after realizing he was an ex-offender.
Newton says it's unfair for the city to reject contract bids based on an employee's criminal history.
Newton's request was sent to the ordinance committee to be discussed at a later date.
