Former State Representative Jack Hennessy, who served in the General Assembly for 18 years representing Bridgeport's 127th District, has died. He was 73 years old.

Hennessy's cause of death was not immediately known.

Mayor Joe Ganim issued a statement that says in part, "I would like to express my condolences to the family and friends of former State Representative John ("Jack") Hennessy. As a veteran himself, Hennessy will be remembered for his work championing benefits and care for our men and women in uniform. Today, we remember and honor Jack for his public service."

Ganim requested that flags be flown at half-staff on Monday.
