A friend of the Darien man accused of killing a hotel worker in Anguilla says his friend was defending himself.

Tim Kennedy befriended Scott Hapgood back when they were in college. He says over the years, their families and friendship grew.

Kennedy says hearing his friend was charged with the manslaughter for the death of Kenny Mitchell felt like a "nightmare."

Hapgood was defending himself against Mitchell, who was an armed aggressor, Kennedy says.

Kennedy says the hardest part is knowing Hapgood's children witnessed the violence.

Hapgood is scheduled to return to court in August.
