A local organization rallied around the owner of a chicken restaurant and his family in Cos Cob Saturday.
The owner of Chicken Joe's restaurant held a fundraiser for his brother-in-law, Salvatore De Blasi, who was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer in April.
De Blasi's daughter says both her parents are unable to work due to health issues, making it financially tough on their family.
"We're the family that's used to trying to give to everyone else and it's hard to be on this side," says Marisa Rojas. "But we're going to fight the fight and take it one day at a time and try to take everything in stride."
Organizers with the Needs Clearing House say they were able to raise $2,500 in 24 hours through a website fundraiser.
