Funeral for Minneapolis fallen police officer held in New Haven

The funeral for fallen Minneapolis police officer and New Haven native Jamal Mitchell was held on Monday.
Family, friends and members of the Minneapolis Police Department gathered at Hillhouse High School for the funeral services.
"I've said this since the day Jamal died, and I will say this every day as long as I live, Jamal Mitchell represented all that is good about the men and women in the Minneapolis police department and the men and women who serve in the policing profession," said Minneapolis Chief Police Brian O’Hara.
Mitchell was responding to a call of gunshots when he was ambushed and shot. He died after helping a man, who later shot him.
Last month, Mitchell was responding to a call in Whittier, Minneapolis when he was ambushed and shot.
He was trying to help a man in the street, later identified as Mustafa Mohamed, when the man shot him, according to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
Officer Mitchell will be laid to rest at a private ceremony at the Evergreen Cemetery.
