Friends and family said their final farewells Friday to the young woman stabbed to death at a Stamford hotel.
A funeral mass was held for Layla Banks at Saint Catherine of Siena Church in Riverside. The 21-year-old was described as being very sweet, not having a mean bone in her body and always up for fun.
Banks was stabbed to death last weekend at the Sheraton Hotel in Stamford. Her ex-boyfriend, 20-year-old Juan Botello, is charged with her murder. He is being held on more than $2 million bond.
Police say Botello confessed to repeatedly stabbing her in the head and neck after the two ran into each other at a party. They say he killed Banks because she had ended their relationship.
Banks was a graduate of Trinity Catholic High School. Friends say she was working toward becoming a graphic designer.
