Bridgeport firefighters say a woman is lucky to be alive after three good Samaritans helped rescue her from a house fire in Bridgeport.
It happened around 11 a.m. Sunday on Trumbull Avenue, in the North End of the city.
Ashon Sutherland says after escaping out of the home's front upstairs window, the woman got stuck on the roof of the front porch as the fire burned.
Sutherland says he ran and got a ladder, and then he and two others insisted the woman put one foot in front of the other, in spite of being scared and unsteady.
"We get her to climb down basically and get off the roof just in time," he says.
A man who said he also lives in the house says virtually all of his possessions were destroyed in the fire.
Firefighters say the blaze apparently started in the kitchen, but the cause is currently under investigation.
