Gov. Lamont was on hand Monday as Bridgeport’s Beardsley Zoo celebrated its 100th year.
The zoo is getting $4.1 million from the state to help with upgrades and renovations. They plan to use the funding to build a bear exhibit, and a bigger tiger enclosure which will allow guests to see tigers behind glass.
“We want to see the tiger habit redone as fast as possible,” said Greg Dancho, Beardsley Zoo director. “So, again we truly are happy about the support that we received from the governor and state legislation towards Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo to make this happen."
The zoo hopes to start construction on the tiger habitat in the fall.
