Gov. Ned Lamont has released a statement on the omicron variant, the latest version of COVID-19 to begin spreading across the globe.
Lamont says while there are no reported cases of omicron in Connecticut, residents must remain vigilant.
In a
statement Lamont said, "Earlier this year we set up a network of labs, 'coordinated' by the Connecticut Department of Public Health, that are conducting 'genomic sequencing' on positive test specimens to provide understanding of the variants circulating in Connecticut. Our advance planning in this area will help us track Omicron, in addition to other variants that could appear in the future."
Lamont added the importance of taking steps in the fight against COVID-19 like getting vaccinated or getting a booster shot, and wearing masks in indoor public spaces.
