Gov. Dannel Malloy announced Wednesday a new round of emergency budget cuts to try and erase the state's $220 million projected deficit.
Malloy unveiled the $65 million worth of cuts following a meeting with legislative leaders on how to close the gap.
The largest cut was $17 million eliminated from the Department of Development Services, which includes a $10 million cut in residential service programs.
The governor also cut $6.5 million from the Department of Children and Families as well as $6.1 million from the Department of Education, including $2 million from the Vocational Technical School.
Under state law, the governor is allowed to reduce a line item in an approved budget by 5 percent or less.
The rest of the cuts will have to be made by the General Assembly.
