Gov. Malloy announced a new plan Tuesday to reduce wait times at the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles.
One part of the plan would allow people to go to a AAA office to title and register a car, similar to what is already allowed with licenses. Boats would not have to be registered for the next three years as well.
Some are critical of the part of the plan that calls for people who owe back taxes not having to wait to renew their car registrations.
"Towns and cities rely on that revenue to provide essential services to residents, such as public education, public safety and so forth," says Norwalk tax collector Lisa Biagiarelli.
AAA says it has been discussing adding car registrations for years and could have them up and running quickly.
