Governor Dannel P. Malloy has signed a new legislation on pay discrimination, which will prohibit employers from asking about a prospective employee's salary history during a job interview.
This will prevent employers from underpaying employees based on previous salaries.
In Connecticut, women are paid on average 82 cents for every dollar paid to men. The pay gap is significantly wider for women of color.
Malloy says there is still more that needs to be done in getting equal pay for women and people of color.
The new legislation will take effect in January.
