A toddler is recovering after falling three stories from an Olinville apartment Tuesday, but the fall is raising questions about why window guards weren't installed.
According to police, 3-year-old Jaden Simpson was playing with his brother when he crashed into a window screen and fell out the window at 3023 Barker Ave. Dirt and grass broke the boy's fall. Simpson, who was bleeding from his head, was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center. He's expected to be released in several days.
Police questioned an adult relative who was watching the children, but have not filed charges.
Landlords are required to install window guards in apartments with children. The Department of Housing Preservation and Development and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene enforce the rule. Both departments are investigating the incident.
