Greenwich officials broke ground Monday morning on a Cos Cob Library expansion project that will add an additional 1,120 square feet to the building.
Officials say the layout of the interior space will change, shifting the children's section to the rotunda area on the eastern side of the building and moving the adult section to the western part of the building.
"We are going to be expanding out the community room…to accommodate programs upward in size that can hold 80- to 100-odd people," says library director Joe Williams. "That will allow us to have greater size children's programs, we'll be able to do our regular author talks, concerts and things like that."
They say the library will remain open during the first phase of the project but will close this spring for the interior renovation with the entire renovation completed this summer.
The cost is expected to be about $3 million.
