Connecticut gathered Wednesday night to honor the victims of the Sept. 11 terror attacks at the state's official ceremony.
The annual ceremony was held at Sherwood Island State Park. The early remembrance is so family and friends can attend the Manhattan event.
A total of 161 people with ties to Connecticut were killed in the attacks.
The state’s official 9/11 memorial is located at Sherwood Island.
The Connecticut National Guard used it as a staging area for the state’s relief efforts to New York City.
