The German Shepherd was the department's 5th canine since its inception of the Canine Unit.
Kato graduated from Connecticut State Police Canine Troop 173 with his handler Officer Keith Scorca in 2015.
Kato retired in 2021 after assisting Greenwich and surrounding areas in criminal cases, missing persons and public demonstrations.
