Police say they are searching for multiple suspects who stole several cars over the weekend.
They say eight cars were stolen Saturday night into Sunday morning. Seven of those cars have been recovered with a variety of damages.
Authorities say two of those thefts led to police chases that ended in crashes, with one at the North Street Fire Station. Firefighters say the car damaged their mailbox, then continued onto their lawn before landing in the bushes. They say no one was hurt in the crash and that police are searching for the driver.
Officials say a group of teenagers ranging from 14 to 17 years old had come from Hartford to steal the cars for joyriding. They say three of those suspects were arrested in North Castle, New York, after leading police on a chase and crashing the car.
Police say this incident could've been avoided if people locked their cars.
"If you have young males driving recklessly, stealing your property with criminal intent, there certainly is some danger to the community that we'd like to avoid," says Greenwich Police Capt. Kraig Gray. "A simple thing like locking your car doors may assist us in reducing the opportunities for someone to get hurt."
Officials say they are seeking arrest warrants for the three suspects in North Castle and expect more arrests for other people involved in the thefts.
