In an effort to keep boaters safe, Greenwich police patrol boats will carry a paramedic in the summer months.
The partnership between the paramedics and marine police units will start Memorial Day weekend and run throughout the summer boating season. The paramedics will be on patrol boats every weekend and holiday of the summer.
Greenwich police say the partnership is unique and no other town in southwestern Connecticut has a similar program. The marine officers say having a paramedic on board will lead to better patient care in the event of an emergency.
A similar pilot program was run last year. Marine officers say it worked well because police were able to focus on boating and law enforcement while paramedics handled patient care.
