Fairfield University celebrated the start of one of the most anticipated campus renovations in decades.

The school broke ground on its new arena and convocation center Monday. The 85,000 square-foot venue will be home to the Stags Division 1 basketball and volleyball teams.

It can also host major events like graduations, concerts and community gatherings with 3,500 seats.
