Bridgeport residents are pleading with the city to stop the spread of garbage odor.

Residents say they were not given enough time to prepare for the bulk item pickup program, which removes large amounts of trash. As a result, garbage has been sitting on the streets for the past couple of weeks. The program ended April 28. Residents want the city to return for the trash, but city officials have other ideas.

"At this time, the city has no plans to come back to this neighborhood and get the garbage," Director of Public Facilities George Estrada said.

Despite complaints, the city says it's the resident's responsibility to discard the trash because they missed the deadline. The city has been issuing $100 fines each day to offending residents.
