Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob Stefanowski is defending comments he made regarding vaccines.
A video has surfaced of Stefanowski questioning whether all kids should be required to get vaccines. When asked if vaccines should be mandated he said, "My starting point is it should be decided by the family."
Stefanowski was also asked whether the state should dictate that or should local BOE's handle that. His reply was, "I think it depends on the vaccination.  I mean, you know, we shouldn't be dumping a lot of drugs into kids for no reason.  And certainly, if you want to home school your kid, you should be allowed to do it.  And if you don't want to vaccinate your kid at home, then you should be allowed to not vaccinate."
The video was leaked by Connecticut Democrats just hours after a new poll showed Stefanowski closing in on Democrat Ned Lamont.
The Stefanowski campaign isn't challenging its authenticity. The say the comments were taken out of context.
Stefanowski's spokesperson Kendall Marr released a statement saying, "Bob fully supports state policy on vaccines. He is not seeking any changes to that. Bob's comments should be taken in the context in which they were given - as a response to claims that school children were being required to take 42 additional vaccinations beyond what state policy currently mandates."
