Police say the Bridgeport man who allegedly attacked his ex-girlfriend with a hatchet is ordered to stay away from her.

Danny Pagan Berrocales, 42, appeared in court on multiple charges Monday, including attempted murder. He is being held on a $700,000 bond.

Officers say Berrocales hit his ex-girlfriend in the head with a hatchet nine times at a home on Orland Street after she told him that she was leaving him. They say a child was also in the home during the attack on Friday, but was not hurt.

Neighbors say they heard the woman screaming for help. Officials say she was cut multiple times, but is expected to be OK.
