State lawmakers and the public will get the chance to weigh in on the legalization of medical marijuana later this week.

The General Assembly's Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on Wednesday to discuss a proposal to legalize medical marijuana.

Under the bill, a person could qualify to use marijuana for medical purposes if they have been diagnosed by a physician as having a debilitating condition.

A similar bill to legalize marijuana failed during last year's legislative session.
