ALERT: There is a FLOOD WATCH in effect for New Jersey today as significant flash flooding is likely for parts of the state associated with training downpours and thunderstorms.
FORECAST: Significant flooding is the greatest threat with today's storms. Rainfall rates can be upward 2 inches per hour with a total rainfall in excess of 4 inches in some spots.
Rain does not fall evenly, so not all communities will experience such magnitude, however, everyone is at risk based on the overall weather pattern. As a result, a Flood Watch is in effect this afternoon and evening across New Jersey.
Aside from widespread flash flooding, damaging gusts are anticipated with severe thunderstorms as they develop and slide across the state. These gusts can knock out power. Most storms will have winds between 40-60 mph with a few storms being severe with gusts in excess of 60 mph. The rain wraps up shortly after sunset with a few showers lingering overnight.
The wind of change blows through the state overnight and Friday with a N-NE wind at 10-20 mph, pulling in cooler air, but cloudy air.
Friday's highs stay in the lower-70s with the windy conditions. You may need the hoodie or sweatshirt!
The weekend, however, is gorgeous with lots of sunshine and fair conditions both Saturday and Sunday with highs in the lower-80s under the warm sunshine.
