State leaders on both sides of the aisle are reacting to Kamala Harris' pick for vice president.
It came down to Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.
Harris went with Walz.
Connecticut Democrats responded Tuesday, including Gov. Ned Lamont, who released the following statement:
"Vice President Harris has made an outstanding choice in picking Governor Walz as her running mate. Tim has been a good friend and a good partner for me over the last six years, and I particularly appreciate that he doesn't take himself too seriously, but is very serious about our country's future. I look forward to doing all I can to support the Harris-Walz ticket."
Sen. Richard Blumenthal spoke to News 12 Connecticut in New Haven.
"His straight talking plain-spoken commitment to everyday Americans, including veterans and law enforcement and I know that he's going to be part of a ticket that will excite and energize Democrats and Americans across the country," said Blumenthal.
Some state Republicans questioned Harris' pick.
"She went with one of the most liberal governors in America. A governor who encouraged the BLM riots, allowed the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul to burn in 2020, calling it peaceful protests. A governor who is trying to make his state of Minnesota into San Francisco, which is where Kamala Harris comes from," said former Republican National Delegate and U.S. Senate candidate Leora Levy.
"You know Josh Shapiro was, I always thought, the more interesting choice for the vice president. But I know the progressives were not happy with having a Jewish candidate, and in particular, a candidate who had very strong views on Israel," said Connecticut GOP Chairman Ben Proto.
Harris and Walz are holding a rally in Philadelphia.
