Congressman-elect Jim Himes (D-4th District) met with Mayor Bill Finch (D) at Bridgeport City Hall Annex Friday to discuss major issues facing the city.

Finch said having Himes, who defeated 21-year incumbent Rep. Chris Shays, in the House of Representatives could be good news for Bridgeport.

?I know Congressman Himes working with President Obama will make a world of difference for the city of Bridgeport,? said Finch.

Himes pledged his commitment to the city.

?We can?t wait until January to get started,? said Himes. ?I better make a difference for Bridgeport ? it?s why I?m doing this.?

The Democratic lawmakers addressed a slew of matters on the minds of Bridgeport residents.

?We need to clean our brownfields, make sure our lighthouse program continues for education for the children, to purchase pleasure beach to open the park for the citizens of Bridgeport,? said Finch. ?We have lots and lots of needs.?

?We've got the Steel Point project under way,? said Himes. ?There are three or four other projects that have made good progress. Much of their success and much of their continuation will depend on whether the funding is there. It will be a real focus of mine to make sure the funding is there.?
