State Rep. Larry Cafero presented $10,000 in grant money from the state to a community group for the renovation of the historical West Norwalk Meeting House.
The building once served as a church from the mid-1800s until the early 1900s. It then became a place for people in the community to meet and hold social events.
Sarah Klein, president of the West Norwalk Meeting House Society, says the $10,000 will go a long way. ?It needs a lot of plaster work. There?s a lot of crumbling of the plaster inside. It needs a new furnace, potentially a new roof,? she said.
Rep. Cafero helped acquire the grant after he attended a meeting at the House and saw that it needed repairs. He then met with Gov. Jodi Rell.
Work on the West Norwalk Meeting House is expected to begin later this year.
