A Bridgeport organization is remembering our Veterans with a very special event.
Homes for the Brave held a fundraiser Monday that brought people all over our area together to help make life better for our Veterans.
One hundred and fifty people took part in Homes for the Brave 3rd annual Honor Our Veterans 5K Run and 2-Mile Health Walk at Sherwood Island State Park.
"This event is absolutely vital to honor veterans we're so excite to be here for Homes for the Brave especially for all the great work that they do. Just really excited to be a part of it," said race director Dave Galla.
Priscilla Sanchez-Garcia started this event.
Her father, a Marine Corp vet and purple heart recipient, died on Father’s Day 2022.
"He was always committed to helping other veterans. I needed to do something so I put grief into action," said Sanchez-Garcia.
Homes for the Brave is a nonprofit organization striving to empower Veterans experiencing homelessness.
"At Homes for the Brave we have a clinical program, a vocational program, a walk in drop in service center for veterans and their family members," said Vince Santilli with Homes for the Brave.
Monday's event will raise much needed money for the hundreds of men and women Homes for the Braves has helped to increase their self-determination.
"This is to honor our veterans. Men and women who have served all of us," said Santilli.
Homes for the Brave says it raised almost $100,000 from its Step Up Event at Sacred Heart University back in August.
