Some Soundview residents near the site of a proposed hotel on Wheeler Avenue say they oppose the project.
William Rivera, the District Manager of Community Board 9, says he's worried that prostitution, drugs and crime -- which are already problems in the neighborhood -- will increase in the area if the hotel is built.
Other Bronx residents also worry about the type of people the hotel would bring into the area.
Community Board 9 says the site is already zoned for a seven- or eight-story hotel, so the opponents face a difficult battle.
Although many residents living in the area say a hotel would bring bad things into the neighborhood, some say a hotel could create more jobs.
News 12 reached out to the developers of the hotel for comment, but they did not immediately respond.
