Police in the Hudson Valley are reminding the public to lock their vehicles.

The warning comes after more than a dozen cars were rummaged through and, in some cases, important items were stolen.

Twenty cars were reported as having been entered last Wednesday in Larchmont, according to police.

Police said most of the incidents didn't result in things being stolen. However, News 12 was told some wallets and a laptop were taken.

Police say these incidents were reported all over the village.

"It's horrible, but people do let their guard down and do not lock their cars," said Diane Lyras, who lives in Larchmont.

Officers say these incidents involved unlocked cars.

It's not only Larchmont. News 12 has been reporting on similar situations this summer around Westchester County.

Police are reminding residents to always remove key fobs and valuables from their vehicles, make sure they are locked and report any suspicious activity.
