Dolly Parton corn maze in Brookfield to open with extra meaning after icon's death

Conquering a corn maze is a fall tradition. But at Twins BBQ Co. in Brookfield, visitors will find extra meaning behind the stalks.
The maze is one of 20 across North America designed by the company the MAiZE to honor the Queen of Country, Dolly Parton.
"What's not to love about Dolly Parton? She was just the most caring, giving person. She had the highest standards and such a wonderful moral compass," said Danielle Gallop, co-owner of Twin BBQ Co.
Parton passed away Aug. 25, but the theme was in the works long before to celebrate the music icon and honor the 31st anniversary of her children's literacy program.
"We were so excited because we think that she is such an exceptional woman. That was an easy yes for us," Gallop shared.
Before her death, Parton recorded a video message inviting people to get lost with her.
"Well, hey there! It's Dolly! Grab your friends, gather up the family and come on out to one of my favorite farms for a little fun, laughter and a real good reason to get lost," said the shout-out, which Twins BBQ Co. shared with News 12.
Now, the 5-acre corn maze is more than an homage to Parton. It's turned into a memorial to her enduring legacy.
Fans can walk through two separate paths, tackle Parton trivia, listen to her music and sit down for story time.
Part of the proceeds will go to Parton's Imagination Library, which sends free books to children from birth to 5 years old. The nationwide program has multiple locations in Connecticut, including Stratford.
"Her father did not read or write, so she thought it was one of the most important things, most empowering things, for young people to learn, so I hope that comes across in our efforts this year," Gallop said.
The family friendly event also includes games, a kids area and Parton-themed photo opportunities.
The corn maze at Twins BBQ Co. is open Wednesdays through Sundays with some Monday holidays starting Saturday, Sept. 5, until Saturday, Nov. 7. Tickets are available online.
