More than 200 people attended a forum on underage drinking hosted by the Regional Youth Adult Substance Abuse Project in Bridgeport Friday. The forum, ?Call to Action Town Hall Summit,? was aimed at informing adults and high school students about the alarming statistics of underage drinking. The project?s director of prevention, Jan Lester, says that more than 32 percent of underage students in southwestern Connecticut admit to drinking alcohol at least once in the past 30 days. Additionally, 33 percent of local teens say that they have ridden in a vehicle with an impaired driver in the past month. Lester also says that local children are reported to have consumed or abused alcohol from as early as the seventh grade. More than 1,000 similar summits on underage drinking will be taking place nationally as part of Alcohol Awareness Month in April.
