Bridgeport families were among hundreds on the steps of the Capitol Thursday afternoon to rally for charter school funding.
Legislators had proposed cutting the funding for two southwestern Connecticut charter schools -- one in Stamford and another in Bridgeport.
Charter school advocates say the proposal came two weeks ago in the state appropriations budget. Lawmakers proposed cuts for those schools as well as programs in others throughout the state.
Parents, grandparents and even students turned out to protest.
Advocates say the cuts would affect 860 students enrolled for the 2015 fall semester.
