For many in southwestern Connecticut, the snow quickly turned to a mixture of freezing rain and sleet Wednesday.Less than an inch of snow actually fell in the Redding and Wilton area. However, road crews say the mix of ice and rain is more dangerous. Truck operators say when there is sleet, it is best to just lay down salt and sand instead of plowing in order to create traction.
Crews have been out since 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, and they are asking people who don't have to be out to stay off the roads.
