Taylor Swift’s impact is so massive that America’s largest newspaper chain is looking for a reporter to cover only her.
Gannett is looking for a reporter who can capture the singer’s music, legacy and cultural and economic influence. QuestionPro, a market research firm, estimates Swift’s Eras Tour could generate $5 billion to the global economy.
The reporter will be hired to write for USA Today and The Tennessean.
The job posting says the reporter will “identify why the pop star’s influence only expands, what her fanbase stands for in pop culture, and the effect she has across the music and business worlds.”
Some in the journalism industry believe it calls the company's reporting priorities into question. In December, Gannett slashed roughly 6% of its more than 3,000 employee U.S. media division.
Gannett is also hiring a Beyoncé Reporter to "chronicle the music, fashion, cultural and economic influence of Beyoncé."
