Interfaith group gathers in Bloomfield to call attention to climate crisis

New Jersey has the potential to see its fourth heat wave of the summer as temperatures are expected to reach the 90s over the next few days.
Some are saying that this extreme heat is part of a climate crisis. A group of interfaith leaders gathered in Essex County on Tuesday to call on the Biden administration to do something about it.
The group gathered outside the Armed Forces Career Center in Bloomfield. They want President Joe Biden to declare a climate emergency.
The group sang songs and offered prayers and urged those who passed by to reach out to the president to ask for “climate safety.”
"Climate change isn't a future issue. It’s a very much urgent present issue and is already causing a lot of damage,” says participant Stephanie Greenwood. “It’s causing that damage disproportionately in low-income and Black and brown and indigenous communities. But it’s not sparing anyone.”
The event is one of many around the country called for by People vs. Fossil Fuels, a coalition of groups pushing for greater executive action on the climate crisis.
