Clarkstown police officer saves drowning 4-year-old girl: A Clarkstown police officer is being hailed a hero after saving a 4-year-old girl from drowning this weekend. Officer Paul Munding was off duty, but jumped into action to save the life of Ella. Ella's mom says it happened during a birthday party when her daughter went after a doll in the pool and began to drown.
5 Long Island students win Erase Racism essay, design contest: Five Long Island students won the annual ERASE Racism essay and T-shirt design contests.The essay contest is for public high school seniors; the T-shirt design competition is for middle school students.The awards include a $500 scholarship for each high school student and a $250 award for the middle school student. The awards will be presented at a virtual celebration on July 8.The winner of the middle school T-shirt design competition is Sean Stergis, a seventh-grader at Woodland Middle School in East Meadow.
Bassick High School moving to University of Bridgeport campus: The city of Bridgeport announced Monday a new Bassick High School will be built at the University of Bridgeport.The city is expected to start paying the university $6 million this year for the nearly 7 acres of property that wraps around the UB soccer field. The city said in a press release, "This education model will allow students to take advantage of the college atmosphere and progress from high school to college."
