Credit scores could be costing drivers thousands in insurance
Coqui Rivera says she was paying nearly $3,000 a year for full car insurance coverage before finding the same plan for just over $1,000.
Rivera claims her previous insurer factored in her credit score when setting the rate.
Advocates are now lobbying to ban the use of credit scores in insurance pricing.
Insurance experts argue people with poor credit are more likely to file claims.
"These people in these communities, the most vulnerable, they're not even driving with insurance half the time anymore," Rivera said.
"What would happen if this legislation was enacted is that rates would go up for safer, better drivers, unfairly," said Paul Tetrault of the American Property Casualty Insurance Association.
