New plans are in place to modernize the DMV customer contact center.
Yesterday, state lawmakers approved about $2 million to upgrade the DMV phone system.
The improvements will allow customers to perform registration renewals over the phone and schedule a time to speak with a DMV representative.
Last year, more than two million state residents called the DMV customer center.
The upgrade is expected to be completed this time next year.
