Connecticut lawmakers will have the power to veto Gov. Ned Lamont’s future emergency orders under a bill that won final approval Thursday night.
The bill allows the eight legislative leaders, from both parties, to reject any orders made after July.
It also limits future emergency extensions to 60 days when the legislature is in session, and 180 days when they aren’t.
The bill also creates a new committee to recommend a rewrite of the state’s emergency laws moving forward.
Gov. Lamont says he will sign the bill.
The Senate vote was 33-2. It came after lawmakers voted to extend the governor's emergency powers to July 20.
The state Senate also voted 34-1 Thursday to explicitly let candidates to use public funds to pay for child care. The measure now goes to the state House.
